5k road run 30/6/10

Nice and gentle run round the block with Mrs Lightning. Wore the vibrams to try and get my technique right.

Hi John - just seen on the FRA forum that you're all signed up for the Borrowdale! Be keen to hear how you get on as I'm taken with the idea of this race - good luck, and get them bloody miles in't legs beforehand:)

Hi Matt, I may have bitten off more than I can chew on that one. I think I'll just plod round. I've never done one that long before so it will be interesting. I'm kinda doing it to prepare for the Peris horse shoe which is similar distance and climb. I am scared though ;-)

Am sure you'll be fine - but yeah it's supposed to be a toughie and a bit of apprehension is appropriate I would say. Almost got a ticket myself least night but there were grumblings from Mrs R and plans took a nosedive...

FRA Race Definitions

A fell race is one run on fell, hill or mountain terrain and shall be categorised as follows :
Category “A”
a. Should average not less than 250’ (76m) climb/mile (1.6k).
b. Should not have more than 20% of the race distance on road.
c. Should be at least one mile (1.6k) in length.
Category “B”
a. Should average not less than 125’ (38m) climb/mile (1.6k).
b. Should not have more than 30% of the race distance on road.
Category “C”
a. Should average not less than 100’ (30.4m) climb/mile (1.6k).
b. Should not have more than 40% of the race distance on road.
c. Should contain some genuine fell terrain.
a. A category “L” (long) race is twelve miles (19.3k) or over.
b. A category “M” (medium) race is six miles (9.6k) and over but under twelve (19.3k).
c. A category “S” (short) race is under six miles (9.6k).
